EMDR For Trauma, Anxiety & Urge Reduction
If you feel stuck in patterns that don’t make logical sense…
If you understand why something is happening, but your nervous system won’t cooperate…
If urges, anxiety, or old memories feel bigger than your willpower…
What Is EMDR?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based therapy designed to help the brain reprocess distressing experiences so they no longer feel overwhelming in the present.
Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR works directly with how memories are stored in the nervous system. Instead of retelling your story over and over, we help your brain “unstick” what’s frozen.
Many clients describe it as:
“It feels further away.”
“It doesn’t have the same charge anymore.”
“I can think about it without spiraling.”
EMDR for Urge Reduction
(Substance use, smoking, and behavioral addictions)
EMDR can be especially helpful for:
Alcohol and substance cravings
Smoking cessation
Compulsive behaviors
Emotional eating
Process addictions (shopping, sex, etc.)
Rather than relying on willpower alone, we target:
The emotional drivers underneath urges
The memories linked to using
Triggers that activate cravings
When the root charge decreases, urges often lose intensity and frequency.
EMDR for Trauma
Childhood trauma
Relational trauma
Sexual assault
Medical trauma
First responder or workplace trauma
Complex PTSD
EMDR helps reduce the emotional intensity of past experiences so they no longer drive present-day reactions.
EMDR for Anxiety
Panic
Social anxiety
Performance anxiety
Persistent fear responses
Hypervigilance
Often anxiety is rooted in earlier experiences where the nervous system learned, “This isn’t safe.” EMDR helps update that message.
Is EMDR Right for You?
EMDR may be a good fit if:
You feel stuck despite insight
You’ve tried talk therapy but want something deeper
Your body reacts before your mind can catch up
You want targeted work around cravings or triggers
If you’re unsure, we can explore together during a consultation.
Session Length & Insurance
I am in-network with:
Aetna
Cigna
(and other select plans — please inquire)
Standard 50-minute sessions are typically covered by insurance.
Because EMDR can benefit from longer sessions, many clients choose:
75–90 minute sessions
Extended intensives
Extended sessions are available as private pay for $150/hour pro-rated to the 15 minute.
A Note on Safety & Pace
EMDR is powerful work. We don’t rush into processing. We build stability first — especially if you have complex trauma or are in early recovery.
My approach is grounded, relational, and paced with care. You will never be pushed faster than your nervous system can handle.
